The golden rule

Interviewing is a two-way street. As much as the company is learning about the candidate, the candidate should be learning about the company.

Rules

  • Introduce yourself.

  • Spend the majority of the time probing.

  • Save a little time for the candidate.

  • Provide hints or move to a new question.

  • Explain why you’re asking, if needed.

  • Don’t hide the challenges.

Tools

  • Cutting off a candidate.

  • Dealing with a candidate who wants to know how they did.

  • What to do when it’s going really well.

  • When a candidate raises protected information.
